Welcome to The Hype! On a site Where Dope Things Tend To Happen, I strive to bring the DOPEST upcoming artists I can find. I’d never sell you something I wouldn’t buy myself, so anyone I feature on The Hype makes music that I bump to.
The Hype is a springboard for up and coming artists that I think have the potential to blow!
Let’s jump right in!
Our first featured artists on The Hype is The Bronx’s own Meko Sky.
Young kid grew up in the inner city, minus a father who wasn’t in the equation. If you’ve heard the story before, it’s because it’s most of our stories, mine included.
What I admire most about Meko Sky is that he, like me, used writing as an outlet. He says that his first love was writing, and in his life it’s taken on many a form, including poetry and of course rapping.
While doing a lot of underground working, his voice hadn’t taken notice until the release of his 1st album “B.O.A.T.S” (Based On A True Story) in August of 2011. This album had a different sound and reached new listeners. “B.O.A.T.S” bridged the gap and gave him the publicity he needed. He began to make appearances at upstate Colleges and perform shows at different NYC clubs & lounges.
With the start of the 2012 year, Meko had a plan. On May 15, he dropped “Bright Lights V.1” With over 5,000 downloads; he is now ready to make the step into the lime light. In November of 2012 it became relevant. He was featured on XXL’s “Who’s Hot” and made a feature in an overseas magazine, “Dreamz Magazine”, where he was highlighted as an artist on the rise. Then on December 21, 2012, he released his highly anticipated album, “Bright Lights… END of END”. This album has features from artist in the game as well as some new faces. This album will begin his rise in 2013.
I’m feeling this artist. I think he has a future in the industry. It’s hard to classify him in a specific category. I’d compare him to J. Cole; somewhere in between a backpack rapper and all out lyricist.
